Rural tourism in Bulgaria

Bulgaria is an attractive tourist destination, because of its wonderful nature, fresh air, wide variety of mountain places and alluring seaside resorts.
The total revenue from rural tourism is 65 million € for 2007. According to BAAT ( Bulgarian Association for Alternative Tourism), rural tourism helps to improve local economics not only by the offered sleeping accommodation, but also by buying local foodstuffs and souvenirs.
It is expected that there will have been 45 golf playgrounds by 2020 in Bulgaria (this piece of information is available from the Institute for analyzing and assessment of tourism). Most of tourists can be lured by the opportunity to combine golf tourism with rural tourism.
Around 5000 people visit Bulgaria for making observations of birds. Lovers of bird-watching are the Scandinavians and the British.
The project for the first eco route, which is to the total value of 145, 000 €, is in a process of developing. This 160 km. route starts from the village of Hvoina, which is situated in the central part of the Rhodopes and reaches Paranesti, which is a greek village . This route can be performed for 7-9 days.
