Russian Tourists Spent 131 M Euro in Bulgaria

In 2005, Russian tourists spent 131 million levs during their vacation in Bulgaria. "Russian tourists are important to the Bulgarian tourism industry, because they are solvent and feel us like friends," said Mario Al-Djebouri, head of the State Tourism Agency. He promoted Bulgarian tourism at the Moscow International Travel and Tourist Exhibition (MITT) 2006 We will present not only the opportunities offered by the traditional winter and sea resorts, but a diversity of spa, eco, cultural, religious and historic tourism centers, as well. Within the last 10 years the Russian investors have laid out 210 million euro for this sphere of the Bulgarian economy. Some 180 Russian tourists visited Bulgaria in 2005, i.e. by 17.8 percent more than in 2004. The tendency for 2006 shows even greater increase of the flow of Russians to Bulgaria - the growth in January and February is 42 percent.
