The low cost carrier Ryanair takes off from Plovdiv to Barcelona

The world's largest low-cost airline, the Irish company Ryanair, is expected to announce a new regular line from the Bulgarian city of Plovdiv to Barcelona, Spain. The new line will be launched at the end of March 2011 and will be served twice a week.
The General Manager of Plovdiv airport Doychin Angelov confirmed that a new regular flight is about to be launched, however, he refused to provide any details. Currently, the Irish carrier Ryanair services flights from Plovdiv Airport to Stansted Airport in London twice a week/Tuesday and Saturday/. One-way fares start from GBP 32.99, including taxes. The flights are convenient for British tourists who visit Bansko and Pamporovo for their winter vacation.
Ryanair has announced earlier this year that it may launch new flights to Plovdiv city in the near future and it will also consider the opening of lines from Bulgaria to Spain and Italy. Ryanair has been planning to launch flights to Plovdiv airport for several years. Britons expected new flights, because in this way an easy access will be directly provided to ski slopes of Pamporovo and Bansko ski resort. Additionally, Plovdiv city will become even more attractive for air companies, because it is planned that as 1st of April 2010, the fees will be sharply reduced. In this sense, the fees at the airport will be three times lower that the fees at Sofia Airport. However, the low fees will become effective in two years. Bulgaria has recently attracted a great number of low-cost carriers due to Bulgaria’s inclusion in the European Union and rapid economic growth in the years after its entry. Also, it is expected that low-cost carriers will expand their market share.
