Alternative tourism holiday- provoking, magnetic and indefinable- my getaway to Trigrad gorge

The fall is really gloomy season and as the winter approaches, we tend to experience some depressions, introvertness and feel rather dissatisfied with our life and everyday tasks. Something obsessed our thoughts and makes us stay away from the joy which tries to penetrate into our frozen senses. Let’s forget it all! If you are sure what to do next, just do it like me, touch the beautiful day which awaits you with the crystal clear mountainous air and the fresh fragrance of pine forests that would bring you to a new universe.

This humbly written travel notes is the first part of my journey which has recently changed my life. I won’t reveal too many details about future travel notes, but I will just tell you that Bulgarian mountains can really change your way of thinking. Next travel notes will be focused on the majestic Bansko resort and the authentic Bulgarian village Dobursko. Stay tuned, because upcoming articles will be dedicated to natural splendours, cultural sanctuaries and hospitable people who still perceive this life in a pretty positive way.

I have passed by Trigrad Gorge and I really wish to share with you my emotions. Yes, it’s true that words are not enough to describe picturesque sceneries and one’s emotions, but I will make an attempt to lead to the world of beauty which I simply call Trigrad Gorge.

Trigrad Gorge is a destination which particularly suits not only to the enthusiastic rafting fans who gather here regularly in order to be close to nature whilst experiencing the magic power of the purifying water, but also admirers like me who can easily fall in love with such splendid places.

The amazing Trigrad gorge is located by the river valley of Trigradska river, just 1.3km to the north of Trigrad village. Should it happen that you are about to visit Bulgaria’s SPA resort Devin, then you should drop in Trigrad. So, I looked at all beautiful vistas that one can see from the bank of the river and it seems that a colourful reel changed in front of my eyes just for a couple of minutes. To be honest with you, I just felt that the time is somehow eternal at this place and you wish to stay here forever in order to make yourself a particle of the harmony of the river and the nature. Wherever you look at, your eyes spot the overhanging rock cascades, meadows, passing by the coiling river. The west side of the gorge rises at 180m and the east one reaches about 300-350m. The distance between two sides is nearly 300m, but it reaches only 100m at the north parts. The height of the rocks is 250m. The altitude is 1450m.

Let me reveal you the local legend that tells more about the mythical Orpheus. The story says that when Orpheus began to play, the wind stood still in the branches of the trees as if the wind was attracted by the magical music. Birds stopped singing, animals stood quiet at the forest paths and the beasts were tamed. When Orpheus was torn to pieces and thrown in the river, each drop of blood turned into a beautiful mountainous flower called silivryak. This flower can be hardly found on the Balkan Peninsula. Not surprisingly, Trigrad gorge has been declared for a protected area. If you are keen on bird-watching, you will be happy to hear that you may observe 10 species of rare birds at the rocks of Trigrad Gorge.

Village of Trigrad is particularly suitable for you if you really enjoy rural tourism opportunities. The village is really picturesque and I think that it is rather hospitable if one wishes to find a guest house for a couple of days in order to completely explore the area and all natural landmarks that Trigrad Gorge offers. The village of Trigrad is located in the west part of Rhodope mountain. It lies only 26km south of Devin and about 40km west of the mountainous town Smolyan. Trigrad is an excellent start point for many tourist routes, eco paths that lead to natural, cultural and historic landmarks that worth exploring. Some of them are Lednitsata chalet-Mugla village-Chairski Lakes; village of Trigrad-Yagodina- Yagodinska Cave and many others. Trigrad offers many attractions for all guests and thus one can diversify opportunities for an active vacation that cannot be found somewhere else. For instance, there are options for horse riding, climbing, motor riding and walking routes. Should you wish to combine it all with rafting adventures, I’d bet that you will enjoy an extreme and really memorable vacation.
