Varna Summer Festival 2008 2-12 June, Varna, Bulgaria

The 16th edition of the International Theatre Festival “Varna summer” is expected to be the biggest one until now. Over 500 participants and guests, 50 performances, a discussion on the topic “Creative cities…How the variety and creative work can contribute to the development of the city?” are only a part of the activities, included in the festival program. Varna Summer starts from the 2nd of June until the 12th of June. 10 plays are included in the official selection and they represent “an interesting picture of the Bulgarian theatre condition”. The selection includes creative works of producers, who are of almost all generation and they form “the face of Bulgarian theatre” One of the international spectacles which will be represented at the “Varna summer” is “Andromache” by Deklan Donelan- an emblem of world theatre during the last decades. The production can be watched in Sofia on the 6th of June. It is like an analysis of human soul and proves the saying that “the heart is a dangerous place”. One of the interesting accents in the 16th edition of the festival is the program Black/North Seas. It is a European platform for making new relationships between arts and other sectors of public life. It explores harbors, which are places of mobility, national borders, transport and often historical landmarks. Seas gives them cultural aspect. The project will be represented in Istanbul and Mangalia. The British Council will participate in the festival with the project “Creative cooperation”. 50 delegates-organizers of festivals and art events from 16 European countries will participate in the discussion “Art cities”.
