World famous Panagyurishte Thracian Gold Treasure returned to Bulgaria

The residents of the beautiful town Panagyurishte are happy, because the world famous Thracian Golden treasure, bearing the name of the town, is returned. The relic will be held in the town for at least two months and two unique replicas will be also made. They will be made of high quality 24 hold. Panagyurishte Thracian gold treasure is an antique set of nine gold vessels. The total weight of the treasure is 6,164 kg. It was discovered on 8th of December 1949 in Merul locality in Panagyurishte region. The treasure was a belonging to an unknown ruler of the tribe odrisi and therefore it dates back to the end of 4th and beginning of 3rd century B.C. The set of vessels was used for religious ceremonies and its style combines Thracian and Greek art influences. The world-famous treasure consists of nine gold vessels (a phiale, an amphora and seven rhytons). As one of the best known surviving artifacts of Thracian culture, the treasure has been displayed at various museums around the world. Most of the time the treasure is exhibited in museums worldwide.
