We chose, stayed at Royal Lodge because of the views & its secluded position. Unlike some of the other visitors we knew in advance that the Casino etc wasn't yet completed, which wasn't a problem for us as we mainly wanted to try the skiing in Pamporovo as well as have a leisurely relaxing break.
We found the staff really helpful and actually very nice, and they tried their best to accommodate any needs we had, one being we needed to receive business phone calls into our room daily, much to our surprise if we were not back on time they would explain this to the caller & give us a message upon our return which wasn't expected at all. It was also "ladies Day' or something like one day & we were given little lucky bracelets, drinks & welcomed into their traditions & celebrations.
Our room was perfectly equipped for our needs as we bought all of our own food & drinks, when we did eat in the restaurant once we got used to their ways it was fine. Although I suppose the restaurant isnt what we would expect in England, ie romantic, dimmed lights etc - but I suppose we just thought hmm its Bulgaria, especially when sometimes the courses didn't arrive when expected. ie on one occasion they all arrived at once starter & main together. We just asked them the next evening to separate the courses & they did happily. I think its a cultural thing, and it seems such a new establishment in such a rural area, its just not like the city. In fact the staff seem to be locals as some of their English isn't as good as you would expect but saying that some of the staff their English is fantastic!! Better than my Bulgarian that's for sure! I think it seemed to be nothing more than teething problems, cultural differences & a little naive inexperience but give them a few more years under their belts I think the cultural differences will become less noticeable. Plus I don't want to go to another England, we love seeing different cultures & its untouched natural beauty & different ways I find refreshing. The world should celebrate our differences. Maybe we could be a bit more understanding, kind & tolerant to such cultural differences.
We were driven to the Ski lifts daily, thought the driver looked really miserable yet one day when we were going for a walk we didn't really have enough layers on but were fed up wearing our heavy skiing jackets so thought we'd try & see if our fleeces & jumpers would be enough as once walking we'd warm up. When at reception handing in our key, the very same guy walked over to us, stopped us, gestured for us to wait there ( he obviously didn't speak any English) and disappeared, 3 minutes later he came back with some really warm coats, ensuring we put them on before leaving the hotel!! So much for appearances, for all his quiet almost solemn expression turned out he was a really kind guy!!
So after reading such negative views I think its only right to add our most positive experience. All in all we had a great relaxing time, yes there were a few improvements to equal what we consider 5 star but in fairness to Royal Lodge we ate & visited a few other restaurants & bars & they were exactly the same. So I guess unless you specifically request how you would like to eat your food they can arrive in numerous ways. We loved the forest & it felt like a little romantic getaway, we will go back next year as the skiing was great & there was plenty of snow even though we were a bit concerned as it was March, later than we wanted. We have teenagers & will be happy to bring them next year as even though its secluded we were offered lifts up to the village, the Chinese restaurant even picked us up one evening & brought us back after meal! So for us the quiet positioning is great as I hate staying in the centre near all of the apres ski nightlife etc. So it suited us.

We stayed at the Royal Lodge for 7 days in January, there was loads of snow. Our apartment in the 5 star resort was clean and comfortable, the staff were helpful.

great hotel set amongst a beautiful pine forest,large apartments and a great spa,will og back

my family had a great time and can't wait to go back. the food was good and accomadation even better. i would recommendit to anyone.

excellent modern hotel with good food and comfortable rooms. Be better if the road leading to the hotel was lit up and improved but overall loads to do and enjoyed our stay. The spa was great

Lovely food,Great location,brand new rooms what more could you ask for.
