Archaeologists discovered ancient temple in Melnik

One more Christian temple, dated back to the period of Despot Slav, was discovered by Bulgarian archaeologists under the church St. Peter and Pavel in the town of Melnik.
Slav was an independent ruler. His origin is from the dynasty Asenevci.
At first his main residency was situated in the fortress Cepina, nowadays nearby the village Dorkovo in Rhodopes Mountain Range. He moved in the fortress Melnik, tucked into the skirts of Pirin Mountain in 1212. He donated much money to many monasteries.
According to his contemporaries, Slav was the most prominent person on the Balkans. He was never subservient to the will of anyone. The memory of him has been kept for many centuries.
