Bulgarian firm ready to invest in ski resort near Smolyan

Bulgarian company Winter Sport intends to spend some 32 mln euro on the construction of a ski resort near Smolyan, a high-altitude town located 90 km south of Bulgaria's second biggest city, Plovdiv, Dnevnik learned from company owner Kiril Asenov. The amenities envisaged for the Perelik resort include new ski runs and related facilities and 16 lifts. Farming minister Nihat Kabil gave Winter Sport the go-ahead last week to acquire a 24 ha site for the project which the company swapped for a bigger land plot, said Asenov. Winter Sport is ready to invest 2-3 mln levs immediately, putting ski facilities in place for the 2005/2006 winter season. Smolyan mayor Dora Yankova said in April 2004 that the municipality was looking for a developer ready to stump up the cash for in the Perelik project. Yankova said on Tuesday she was not award of the land swap but described Winter Sport as a 'serious investor.' see source
