Bansko, Borovets and Pamporovo-what’s new

Anita Valentinova, 18.12.2010

Bansko- the winter capital of the Balkans

If you are still wondering whether Bansko can fulfill your requirements and fit into your needs, you’d better carry on reading what’s new in the premier ski resort. The total number of snow cannons in Bansko is 230, so snow-sure holiday in Bansko is guaranteed during ski season 2010/2011. Brand new snow making facilities are 38 which means that the ski zone of the resort is provided with approximately 80% artificial snow. New facilities will be situated in the area Chalin Valog and to the left of Shiligarnika. A brand new 4-seat ski lift will service the ski tracks at the Plateau in Bansko and a bigger lift will be available at Kolarski road. The total investment in the ski zone are estimated at 13.5 million EUR, announced the Marketing director of Ulen, the concessionaire of the ski zone.

Borovets- the pearl in the crown

As you remember, a water resource with the total capacity of 35 000 m3 was installed in 2009 in Borovets. It was constructed to bring water to the snow cannons. The good news is that the link between the resource and Sitnyakovo is fully finished for ski season 2010/2011. Also, a great snow cover is guaranteed at the ski tracks in front of Rila Hotel. The snow blanket will be a reality even in the unfortunate even of the lack of snow. The ski track ‘Rotata’ will be covered with snow and thus beginner skiers will no longer wait at the ski trails. The ski zone Markudjik disposes of a new system which improves snow retention at the peak where the strong wind used to blow away some areas. Borovets boasts 150 new parking lots in the zone of the 4-seat lift ‘Yastrebets Express’. Five stations will monitor the weather changes and seven webcams will provide potential holidaymakers with useful information.

Pamporovo- the sunniest ski resort

The new snow-making cannons in Pamporovo can cover nearly 14km with an artificial snow. About 6 lifts and 9 trails with the total capacity of 11 600 persons per hour will service tourists in the popular winter resort. New information signs were installed at 37km-long ski tracks and they indicate the different level of difficulty and all directions. Nearly 200m nets were provided at all potentially dangerous spots in the resort. The floodlit ski track Stenata will be fully connected with the ski area from Snezhanka to Studenets. The area is 2km and it is fully serviced with the necessary equipment for night skiing. As soon as we see more snow in Pamporovo, the first half pipe facility, ideally suited for snowboarders, will be put into operation. The cozy Hotel Perelik disposes of a new information centre where one can purchase tickets and ski lift passes. Moreover, ski lift passes will be sold by automated machines and one can even pay with a debit card.

Chepelare

Chepelare has not seen serous investments so far. The seven ski tracks with the total ski zone of 20km were well-groomed and maintained for the active ski season. Two of the ski tracks will be further expanded, but the project should have been finished for ski season 2011/2012. In this relation, it is important to note that Chepelare, the small, but picturesque mountainous resort, will compete with premier ski centres in Bulgaria, because about 3250m ski area would be covered with an artificial snow.

Vitosha- skiing above Sofia

Vitosha has not seen any investments as well. Yet, old facilities are fully refurbished in order to ensure the safety of skiers and snowboarders who choose Vitosha ski resort for their enjoyable experiences.
