Ski season in Borovets, Pamporovo and near Peshtera was officially opened

Anita Valentinova, source: www.bgizlet.com, 22.12.2010

The ski season 2010/2011 was officially opened in Bulgaria’s mountain resorts Pamporovo , Borovets and St.Constantine and Elena near the town of Peshtera. Even though there was a blizzard in Pamporovo, the sunniest ski resort in Bulgaria, two ministers opened officially the ski season. Mr.Traykov and the popular Bulgarian ski champion Mrs. Dafovska were the first who hit the slopes at the most famous ski track ‘’The Big Wall’’. Pamporovo expects more tourists this winter season and therefore there will be a growth of the number of tourists and it may reach nearly 20-30% during the new season. It is noteworthy that Pamporovo has not seen such a tourist influx over the last few years. The main reasons on the grounds of which experts predict such successful figures are the improvement of the infrastructure, new border centres and the new quality level which Bulgarian tourism offers.

Let us remind you that Pamporovo ski resort will host the official start of the European ski championship in 2012.

Foreign tourists are not acquainted with the excellent ski conditions in the resort ‘St.Constantine and Elena’ near Peshtera, however, it can still offer great tourism opportunities. The small ski trail has been put into operation, however, there isn’t a snow cover in order to trigger the big one as well. The snow cover is about 20cm. The road which leads to the resort is well maintained in order for tourists to easily access the ski area. Yet, the ski resort caters mainly for Bulgarian tourists due to its close proximity to Bulgarian towns Peshtera and Pazardzhik.

Borovets ski resort opened the ski season with a 50% discount off the ski lift passes, free night skiing and well-groomed ski tracks. Currently, Borovets boasts more snow due to the improved snow-making cannons. Skiers will once again test their skills on the ski tracks Rila , Iglika, Rotata, Sitnyakovo, Martinovi Baraki 1 and 2, Popangelov ski tracks, Yastrebets 3 and Suhar.
