A bike trip from Naardmeer lake in Netherlands started on April 23d 2010. The aim of the initiative is to promote the preservation of European nature and biodiversity. Four recently retired regional directors of Netherlands society of Natuurmonumenten took part in the trip. They have passed over 3500km with their bicycles. The biking trip passes through nature reserves in Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Serbia, Romania and Bulgaria is one of their final stops.
Sakar Mountain is a part of the European initiative Green Belt Movement. Sakar has been chosen as one of the final destinations because of the region’s biodiversity and cultural monuments. Sakar mountain is one of the few remaining European habitats of the Eastern Imperial Eagle. The biking adventure ended on June 11th in Sakar Mountain on the Greek-Bulgarian border.
