Bulgaria is a top family destination 2013, announced by Virgin money

17.01.2013

Virgin Money recommended Bulgaria as a top family travel destination for 2013. Bulgaria is recommended for its low cost, but high quality travel experiences that the country offers and the special emphasis falls on the tours and spectacular journeys in the Rhodope Mountains. The report mentions Bulgaria’s popular skiing resorts, which attract thousands of tourists from all over Europe and the world. It also reveals the world-class amenities and services. But there’s much more that makes Bulgaria a recommended year-round destination.

Located at the skirts of Vitosha mountain, the capital city, Sofia, claims to be the ideal destination for families that are looking for a good place to ski in the winter, or for those who enjoy summer hiking. The capital is a strange mix of European and Communist-style architecture, but it is charming, and fortunately it has managed to keep many medieval treasures, and some of the most beautiful Orthodox churches that can be found in this part of Europe. One of these churches, Hagia Sophia (named so because during the Ottoman rule it was used as a mosque), gave its name to the city in the 14th century. For a breathtaking religious art experience, one is advised to visit the impressive St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.

And then, next recommended family-friendly travel destination is Varna where one can enjoy a day at the beach. Also, it’s worth mentioning that you can leisurely stroll in the Sea Garden, or visit the local archaeological museum, to discover some of Bulgaria’s precious treasures. 18 km to the west of Varna city, you’ll discover a curious natural phenomena, called the Stone Forest (Pobiti Kamani) or the “petrified forest”.

The article finishes with a short sentence saying that no matter why and where you will visit Varna, Bulgaria’s premier seaside resort is a must-see destination and it has many landmarks that you will be excited about. More about Aladzha monastery and other Varna landmarks you can find in our regularly updated travel guide.
