The archaeological discovery Kozi Gramadi becomes an attractive tourist attraction

Anita Valentinova, source: infotourism.net, 31.10.2010

A team of experts visited the peak Kozi Gramadi in order to define the borders of the archaeological complex and the status of the Thracian residence as a cultural monument of national importance. According to the renowned archaeologist Ivan Hristov who leads the excavation works, Kozi Gramadi Peak has a great potential to turn into the pearl of Sredna Gora. He stated the reason behind this conclusion is a result of the engagement of Bulgarian vice premier, the historian Bozhidar Dimitrov and the municipality Hissarya. It is expected that definite plans for the construction of the infrastructure and the scientific researches in long-term perspective will achieve further development of these attractive archaeological sites. Prof. Valentine Todorov has created a project for the conservation of the Thracian sanctuaries. It is planned that the overall appearance of the big temple will be restored. For the time being, the temple is one of a kind on the Balkan Peninsula. It was 4m high and the entrance was decorated with the so called Ionian frame which is typical of some tombs in Thrace.

Three important roads cross the peak Kozi Gramadi. They are a part of a complicated route which used to connect the temples with Starosel. Ivan Hristov gave the name ‘Sacred Road’ to this important crossroad. The team of experts discovered a new Thracian road that encompasses from all sides Kozi Gramadi at the level of the royal residence. Archaeologists believe that they will reveal a complex puzzle of architectural details which make the place extremely interesting. Ancient Thracians constructed the residence at three levels.
