Foreign Tourists in Bulgaria to Register
Sofia Echo Com, 04.01.2006
Foreign tourists will need to fill out registration cards on entering Bulgaria. They will have to specify the exact address of their accommodation during the stay. The new requirement came into force at the beginning of the year in accordance with changes to the Foreigners Act. All tourists need to know the address of the hotel where they plan to stay. Visitors in organised groups will receive the information from their tourist agency. Representatives of Bulgarian tourist agencies said that they did not expect that the new regulation would make their work more difficult. Announcing the address in advance would guarantee higher security to foreign tourists. Registration cards are used in many other countries but are a novelty in Bulgaria. One of the aims of the new procedure is to ensure more accurate statistics about foreigner visits to Bulgaria. Similar statistics are currently prepared by the Tourism Agency but the data sometimes is inaccurate, Dnevnik newspaper reported. see source
