Archeologists discovered the mythical ancient tower featuring in the coat of arms of the city of Burgas.
The find proved that this Black Sea city has at a history of at least 20 centuries. The sensational news was yesterday announced by Burgas History Museum Director, Tsonia Drajeva and the Standart owner, Todor Batkov who also owns the property where the tower was discovered.
Archeologists believe the tower dates back to 3rd century AD and was a part of a strategic Roman fortress. Archeologists also discovered the ruins of a harbour and an ancient castle wall built in the beginning of the 5th century and guarded by other two similar towers. All findings have been made on Foros peninsula in the property of Foros Development EAD, owned by Todor Batkov. The company intends to build a modern complex on the site. Batkov defined the finds as 'sensational' and promised to generously sponsor the restoration of the tower.
