The museum Sokay was opened on 5th of July 2012. It is privately owned and is housed in the building of the famous Veliko Turnovo family Kiselovi. The National Museum of Architecture was housed in this building from 1978 to 2002.
The museum is an ethnographic one, however, different exhibitions will be hosted here. They all present the history and the culture of Bulgaria and other nations. The museum has also a courtyard, as well as a special hall, where one can see demonstrations, workshops and get acquainted with Bulgarian traditions and customs. Interesting performances stand for the special folklore traditions. This makes the newly opened museum Sokay an useful and pleasant place, a centre where one can feel the diversity and special charm of the ethnographic and culture heritage of the region.
There is a shop for souvenirs next to the museum and the visitors can buy something or make themselves a unique and purely emotional gift.
The museum Sokay is located on Ivan Vazov str.35 in Veliko Turnovo town. The museum is only 300-400m away from the main entrance of the Tsarevets fortress, the iconic landmark of Veliko Turnovo and the emblem of Bulgaria’s Medieval historic and culture legacy.
Working hours: from Tuesday to Sunday from 9am to 5pm. The museum would open on Mondays only if you make a reservation beforehand.
Entrance fees: 6 BGN for adults; students- 4 BGN, family ticket – 12 BGN
