The town of Velingrad becomes a world sport-tourism balneocenter

“What we really want is to transform Velingrad in a holiday territory. We want to do this in such a way that somehow helps Velingrad to become world sport-tourism balneocenter.”-declared the mayor of the municipality in a press conference.
“We have a lot of goals, but the main one, which is in the highlight of our programme (plan for ruling over the municipality from 2008 to 2011), is to transform Velingrad from seasonal to all-year resort by development in Spa tourism, ski, sport, rural, hunting, fishing, mountain and business tourism.”, added the mayor of Velingrad.
The forthcoming programme for the development of the Rhodopian town is about to be elaborated specially for the aim. The construction of all the necessary equipment for winter tourism in the area of ‘Belmeken’ („Белмекен”), ‘Jundola’ („Юндола”), ‘Kurtovo’ (“Куртово”) will be also included in the programme. The mayor announced that the development of tourism will improve by making tourist routes, related to objects of the cultural and historical heritage of this area such as the antique Thracian sanctuary over Kleptuza (“Клептуза”) and on the hill Ostrets, medieval church over the hill, the medieval fortress Gradot and etc.
