Marc Girardelli: Bansko is a famous European ski resort

The legendary alpine skier Marc Girardelli stated that Bansko ski resort, the winter capital of the Balkans, is a popular name abroad. The ski legend Girardelli visited Bulgaria for the official opening of the ski season 2010/2011 in Bansko and the official ceremony for the proclamation of Bansko as the “Winter Capital on the Balkans”. Bansko also welcomed many other ski legends: Peter Popangelov, Marc Girardelli, Andreaz Wenzel, Maria Walliser, Josef Strobl, Leonhard Stock, Luc Alphand and Michael von Gruenigen.

“I am Austrian, but I live in Switzerland, very often I travel to Germany and therefore I can state that Bulgaria’s Bansko is already popular in these countries. However, the resort can rapidly develop and maintain even better reputation if more investments and improvements are implemented. Thus, the great ski resort will attract even more people from all over the world and they will have the opportunity to explore the beauties of Bulgaria. I believe that this happen in short tems” stated the legendary Girardelli, who is already an honored citizen of Bansko.

Girardelli came for the official opening of the new ski season in Bansko with 20 of his friends from Austria, Switzerland and Germany. According to the famous skier, the International ski federation was easily convinced to give Bansko the chance to host a round of the World Cup, because the resort offers excellent ski conditions and boasts modern facilities. ‘Ski resorts usually wait around 20 years in order to be regarded as appropriate for such important events.’ commented Girardelli.

The local authorities are convinced that Bansko needs to develop continuously, so new equipment and infrastructure development will be implemented. In this relation, it is necessary to have a change in the management plan of National Park Pirin. Thus, a second cabin lift will be constructed. Later the minister of Economy Traicho Traikov stated that Bansko deserves the attention of the ski stars who arrived for the official opening of the ski season. He bestowed the prizes upon the eight alpine skiers who made a demonstration downhill on “Alberto Tomba” ski slope. The minister also emphasized that Bulgaria has much more to offer to all International guests.
