Spa and seaside resort Pomorie lies on the Southeastern Black Sea coast, located on a narrow rocky peninsula at the Bourgas Bay on the southern Bulgaria's Black Sea Coast. It is located only 20 km away from Bourgas and 18 km from Sunny Beach. Convenient transport links connect Pomorie with other towns and resorts. Thus, the airport is 8 km far from Pomorie. The proximity of Sunny Beach and District Center of Bourgas provides an ample choice of entertaining opportunities. The lagoon Lake Pomorie, the northernmost of the Bourgas Lakes, lies in the immediate proximity.

The curative effect is a result of the complex action of chemical byological, electrodynamical and mechanical factors of the curative mud. The medical mud is sedimentary -firth, black, fat on touch, smelling of sulphur-hydrogen, and silicate - carbonate bones and low containing of gypsum. The sea area of the Pomorie Bay is preferred for sailing boats and the quay is praised by the fishingmen. The Pomorie Bay is preferred for yachting, sailing and fishing. One of the most prominent Bulgarian writers, Peyo Yavorov, was born in Pomorie and this is the place where he found his inspiration.

Unique cultural and historic monuments in Pomorie are the Thracian domed tomb, the museum complex “Old Anhialo Salt”, the churches “Jesus Christ” and “Holy Virgin Mary”, the monastery “St. George” and the architectural landmark “Old Pomorie houses”. The major landmark in the town is the holy spring in the monastery “St. George”. Pomorie is the excellent choice for family holidays due to its safe and sun-kissed beach, plentiful of sunshine, interesting history and exciting monuments.

Cultural and historic inheritance of the resort

The antique domed tomb (herron) - architectural monument ( II Century AD) is of world significance. Unique by its architectural perfomance, the tomb is situated in the midst of gardens, 500m on the north of the “Evropa “ camping. The monument is open for the tourists during the tourist season. The architectural landmark called “ Old Pomorie Houses”, in the centre of which is the only one preserved middle-aged church “The Transfiguration” (XVIII Century AD) is famous for its unique icons. The active temple is a church named “The Nativity of the Holy Mother” is situated in the center of the city. The Monastery of “Sveti Georgi” (1856 AD) is a favourite place for visits by tourists and worshippers alike. In the museum reserve of “Anchialski solnitsi”, located on the west of the Sanatorium of the Health ministry, the tourists are able to get acquainted with authentic way of salt-producing in Anchialo. In the region of “Dymyat” cellar, belonging to “Chernomorsko zlato” there is a special taste place, where the tourists are able to taste some famous brandies, wines and rakyas (Bulgarian spirit drink) and to touch the history of the wine-trade in Pomorie region. “Yavorov Rocks” are situated near the beach, facing to Sozopol and Bourgas. The monument of the eminent Bulgarian poet is near the beach. The Salt Museum in Pomorie The Salt Museum in Pomorie was inaugurated on September 7, 2002. The Museum displays the ancient Anchialo technology, applied in sea salt production. It consists of an exposition hall and presently operating salt works, which spread on an area of some 2 hectares. Apart from that the Museum has at its disposal a collection of photographs taken at the beginning of the previous century and tracing the development of salt production in the region, old topographic maps, miniature models and authentic equipment and tools used in salt production. Interesting video films, shown by using modern audio and video equipment, can be seen, too. There are souvenirs, brochures, etc. on offer at the Museum. The salt works on spot of the Museum are presently producing salt in the same way this was done in antiquity. The visitors to the Museum can become witnesses of all the technology steps involved, as well as talk to salt makers about their professional secrets, and feel the authentic atmosphere of the past.

The Pomorie Lake, which is a unique eco-system, was declared protected area in 2001, and has been a Ramsar place since 2002. This lake is famed for its incomparable flora and fauna, which can be watched by visitors. The Pomorie Lake provides great conditions for mud treatment. Pomorie Lake is situated 24 km north of the biggest city on the Black Sea, Bourgas and 2 km away from the coastal town of Pomorie. The lake is one of Pomorie’s most famed landmarks. A natural sand strip separates the unique lake from Black Sea. Several channels of the lake connect it to the sea and ensure the inflow of salty water. Because of the high salt concentration, the lake features some very specific plant and animal species. The beautiful water lily has been included in the Bulgarian Red Book of endangered species and can be seen only there. Since some swamps are situated west of the lake, it causes the existence of some other interesting plant species. Several migration routes, among which the famous Via Pontica, pass over Pomorie lake. A few artificial islands were constructed in the lake in order to ensure natural habitat of various types of birds which can nest there. The lake is a key rest spot for various bird species and for that reason is attractive for bird watchers.
