Only 1.00 EUR will cost the airfare in order to fly from some European destination to Bulgarian antique city of Plovdiv. This will become feasible after the fund for the development of Plovdiv Airport is into operation. At least 5 municipalities have voted for the funds for the development of Plovdiv Airport which will be turned into the southern gate of Bulgaria, announced the regional governor Mr. Ivan Totev. It has been already approved that the airfares will be reduced and a discount of 50% on the prices will be offered. Moreover, the reduction will be valid for the next 2 years. The goal is turn Plovdiv Airport into an attractive place for lost cost air carriers. The head of one of the biggest air companies “Ryan air” - with 63 million passengers annually arrived in Plovdiv on 17th May. The presence of such low cost carrier would bring new passengers flow for Bulgaria, however, this won’t affect the traffic of other Bulgarian airports. “Ryan air” has estimated that the service of one passenger on Plovdiv airport would cost 18 Euro. 50% discount will compensate 10 Euro, and the other 8 Euro will be payable by the regional fund for the development of the airport. Thus, Europeans will be able to fly to Plovdiv for 1 EUR. For instance, Ryan air announced 1 million promo tickets to Prague for 1 Euro. The municipality of Plovdiv is interested in the prosperity and development of Plovdiv Airport, because it will help the economy and most importantly make the region an extremely attractive tourism destination.
